What is Hycosan and what makes it effective? Plus

Hycosan is a preservative-free, sterile eye lubricating range designed to relieve dry, itchy, or tired eyes with high-quality ingredients that hydrate and protect the tear film. It uses a COMOD® delivery system to maintain sterility for up to 6 months after opening.
What are the different Hycosan types, and how do I choose? Plus
  • Hycosan Original – For mild to moderate dry eye and contact-lens discomfort; contains 0.1% high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid.
  • Hycosan Extra – For more persistent or post-surgical dry eyes; contains 0.2% hyaluronic acid, offering intensive, longer-lasting relief.
  • Hycosan Plus – Combines 0.1% hyaluronic acid with 2% dexpanthenol for hydration and healing—ideal for post-surgery recovery.
  • Hycosan Shield – A water-free, single-ingredient (perfluorohexyloctane) formula that replenishes tear lipids to protect against evaporation.
  • Hycosan Fresh – Gentle formula with 0.03% hyaluronic acid and Euphrasia for soothing red or screen-stressed eyes.
  • Additional variants like Dual, Intense, and Night offer targeted relief (e.g., allergy, severe dryness, overnight lubrication).
How do I use Hycosan eye drops safely? Plus
  • Shake and prime (pump until the first drop appears).
  • Tilt your head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid, and apply one drop. Avoid touching your eye with the bottle tip.
  • Frequency: Usually 3 times daily per eye, unless otherwise directed. Wait 30 minutes before applying other drops or ointments—and always use Hycosan last.
  • Contact lenses: Most formulas are lens-compatible; wait ~30 minutes after insertion before applying. Hycosan Intense and Shield are not recommended with contact lenses.
  • Storage: Use the same individual-only bottle for up to 6 months after opening; discard afterward.
Are there any side effects or precautions? Plus
  • Some users may experience temporary stinging, blurred vision, redness, itching, watery eyes, or foreign body sensation, which generally resolve quickly.
